This Art Nouveau, Edwardian, Victorian 'Dragon's Breath' art glass is often referred to Jelly Opal or Mexican Faux Fire Opal. Also mistakenly called saphiret, an unusual and rare Victorian tan to aqua art glass, which is sometimes used to describe actual butterfly wings. While all are very collectible, they are not all created equal! To see a real Saphiret brooch please search # 455552 in this web catalog. This 1 X 7/8" diminutive but delish brooch is set on an early setting marked Sterling in that it has a safety-pin catch and a brass pin-stem as some of that era were made, brass being sturdier perhaps.
